Henry S. Welcomes Home during part of his boyhood. The house at Garden City where the family lived for several years. In 1866 Solomon C. Wellcome took over the drug store at Garden City. That had been started by his brother, Dr. J.B. W. Wellcome, to supply the needs of a frontier community. It was here Henry Wellcome from about the age of thirteen began to gain his First experience of pharmacy. He was enthusiastic from the start, And his uncle encouraged him by lending him scientific books and Giving him some practical instruction. He was fortunate also in that An English chemist settled in Garden City an gave him lessons in Chemistry and pharmacy, and from whom he derived a good deal of information concerning British scientific institutions, museums and libraries. |
